For children with significant motor delay, positive effects of START-Play were observed at 3 months for Bayley cognitive, Bayley fine motor, and APSP, and at 12 months for Bayley fine motor and reaching outcomes.
For children with mild motor delay, positive effects of START-Play for Bayley receptive communication outcome and for usual early intervention for APSP outcome were observed at 3 months.
What this means
START-Play may advance reaching, problem-solving, cognitive and fine motor skills for young children with significant motor delay over usual early intervention (BAU) alone.
START-Play in addition to usual early intervention (BAU) may not improve motor/cognitive outcomes for children with mild motor delay.
